Adolescent / Teen Therapy

Is your teen or college student feeling anxious, overwhelmed or alone? Are they shutting you out or making poor choices? My experience treating adolescents age 13 and up can help your child learn to respond rather than react to their emotions as well as develop new skills and coping strategies.

Your Teen Can Thrive

Adolescence can be a tumultuous time for both parents and children. Are the old ways you used to connect with your child no longer working? Is your teen pushing boundaries, constantly arguing or shutting you out?

I specialize in:

Anxiety

Experiencing bullying

Irritability

Depression

Feeling unmotivated or losing interest in normal activities

Making poor choices online

Feelings of isolation or loneliness

Struggling in school

Ongoing conflict with parents or siblings

Let’s Help Your Teen Thrive

If your child is under 18, our first session will include parents so we can all get to know each other. I’ll share how I work and what to expect in our sessions. I’ll also learn more about each of you and answer any questions you may have. Then your teen and I will chat alone so we can make sure I’m a good fit for your child’s needs.

Once we agree on goals for therapy, most clients opt for weekly sessions, which I schedule at the same time each week to fit your family’s schedule. Generally, I meet with the teen alone; however, your child can choose to include parents in the sessions if they desire. We’ll also have a monthly “family check-in” session where we can discuss whatever your child feels comfortable sharing with you.

Therapy is a safe environment where your teen can talk about anything they like, without fear I will judge them.

During the sessions, I’ll honestly share what I’m observing with the teen and ask for their feedback.

Your teen and I will work together to help them:

  • Gain insight and understand themselves better

  • Learn what’s driving their behavior

  • Better manage their emotions

  • Feel empowered to change

  • Replace negative behaviors with positive ones

  • Feel less alone

  • Make safer choices online

  • Regain motivation and improve their grades

Parents will learn new tools for relating to your teen to improve communication and reduce family conflict.
