Dr. Corynne Keirnes

DMFT, LMFT

I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California (LMFT108819) and Colorado (MFT.0002270) After studying Psychology and Early Childhood Education in college, I taught at a child development preschool for several years.

It was during that time that I discovered my passion for people’s emotional and relational health. I found that what I enjoyed most in my career was moments of connection, whether it was parent-teacher conferences or conversations with my little students. I felt a deep desire to aid others in discovering the roots of their struggles, and in finding freedom from the dynamics that caused them suffering. This desire propelled me to go on to receive a master’s degree in Marriage & Family Therapy from Fuller Theological Seminary.

While in graduate school, I worked at PUC Schools as a Trainee and provided therapy to struggling teens and their families as they navigated mental and emotional distress. I also had the privilege to work at the Lake Avenue Church Counseling Center, where I provided therapy to couples and families in a live supervision setting. This provided extensive training and feedback from my colleagues and supervisors as I performed therapy sessions for an audience. I then went on to work at The Center for Individual and Family Therapy (CIFT) in Orange County, where I helped teens, college students, individuals, and couples work through emotional and relational struggles. Over the six years that I worked and was supervised at CIFT, I further developed my skills in the areas of anxiety, depression, and marital and family distress.

In my doctoral program, I continued to deepen my skill set and received further consultation and supervision of my clinical work. I also completed a dissertation designed equip parents and caregivers with tools grounded in interpersonal neuroscience to support optimal development of the whole child: social, emotional, psychological, and spiritual.

A Collaborative Approach

My approach to therapy is open and collaborative. I don’t just sit back and listen to you talk—I share my thoughts and provide feedback on the patterns and dynamics that I see. You and I will work together to gain greater insight into yourself, uncover what holds you back, and discover how to make positive lasting changes in your life.

My foundation in therapy is Attachment-based and Psychodynamic. I also use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Restoration Therapy, and Family Systems Therapy. These approaches help you to understand how your early life experiences shaped who you are, how you see yourself, and how you relate to the world. We’ll explore any patterns of behavior or relationship dynamics that arise from your past, but are no longer serving you, and you’ll learn new ways to do things differently.

This isn’t a “quick fix,” Band-Aid approach to therapy. We’ll do the deep work that’s needed to help you experience real transformation and feel empowered to make lasting changes. The goal is to help you break negative patterns and make new choices to live the life you really want.
